Course Overview

An Introduction to the Montessori teaching method. This is a great course for those curious about the history, background and overview of Montessori and its founder; Maria Montessori.

This provides a foundation of Montessori education; it discusses the practices and compares it with other theories and practices of today. This course can be used towards professional development as a certificate will be issued upon successfully completing the course.

Topics Covered Include:

  1. Montessori Education Introduction
  2. Montessori Core Principles and Practices
  3. The Prepared Environment
  4. Preparation of the Directress/Director
  5. Montessori Curriculum.

Over a period of 7 curriculum workshops you will work with the equipment for gain the knowledge to be able to present them within a classroom setting.

The workshops required will be:

  • Practical Life 1 and 2
  • Sensorial 1
  • Mathematics 1
  • Language 1
  • Cultural 1 and 2

Duration

This program is delivered part-time over a period of 1 – 2 years.

The program involves attendance at a 6 hours tutorial and 7 six hour ‘materials’ workshops once a month as well as 40 hours working in a Montessori classroom.

Method of Study

The majority of our lessons are conducted in the classroom and Early Childhood environment.  Access to your tutor through phone, email or face to face classes ensures you have full support of the college.

Entry Requirements

There are no academic pre-requisites however all students must demonstrate their English Language proficiency at time of enrolment by undertaking the Language, Literacy and Numeracy test supplied by BFES.

Career opportunities

There are many including working in the Early Childhood industry within a Montessori-based service, as an Assistant within a Montessori school setting as a teacher aide.

Further education can be in the form of further courses, attending exhibitions, or specialised in-service training in the areas of Early Education and Montessori. All candidates are offered advice on their employment options.

Cost

The Montessori Assistants course costs $1500.

A non-refundable course deposit of $200- is required to be paid upon enrolment. This ensures your place and your allocation of text books.
